Guidelines for Role Playing:
In Role Playing, you take on the role of someone or something else and see the world through their eyes. You will describe their actions and thoughts and map out their path through the setting(s) of the role play. As you and others post, the story of the role play will grow and hopefully prove to be compelling enough to keep everyone coming back for more! There are some guidelines you should follow, though, to ensure that the experience is good for everyone:
• Remember that you're playing a game! Have fun.
• The normal forum rules still apply but also several RP-specific rules may be in play. Ask the original poster if you need clarification.
• Be responsible and play fair, people realy dislike god-moders and meta-gamers (in other words, no god-like character behavior and no character stealing!)
• Use good spelling and grammar. People will sooner ignore you than try to fight through a difficult post.
• If you're starting an RP remember to set the story up in your first post. You should also list any special rules that the RP is going to use. An Out of Character (OOC) thread is encouraged to help keep things clean. Only in-character posts should be made in the story topic. Everything else belongs in the OOC thread.
• If an RP has been going on for awhile, you might want to ask the OP how you can jump in with your character first.
• There are a couple special formats you should use for certain kinds of actions. Speech should be put in "quotations". Thought or inner monologue should be written in italicized text. Quick out-of-character questions or claifications sould be put in ((double crackets)). Finally, radio transmissions should be surrounded by backslashes like so: \\Remember, the Spode is watching you\\
• Finally, only in-character posts should be posted in an RP unless out-of-character posts are short questions or clarifications. For the RP's general discussion, always create an OOC (out-of-character) thread along with the IC (in-character - the actual RP) thread.
